What is the head bop AI trend?
The head bop (or headbop) is a short edit where cut-out heads in a row bob to a heavy beat on a black background. The best-known version uses four cats, and it took off again on TikTok in late September 2026 with people swapping in their own pets, families and anything else with a face.
This template does it from one photo. The video follows a depth map of the trend clip, so the row, the bobbing and the camera push-ins land where they did in the original; every head is the subject from your photo, with its own fur or face. No CapCut template, no keyframing, and no prompt.
On TikTok
The same row, different heads
After the fighter-jet clip, people put their own cars, characters and crews on the black backdrop.
What the template recreates
The whole 12-second clip, every head locked to the beat.
- 0–4 s
The row bops in
A fade from black into four heads, small to big, bopping in turn to the beat.
- 4–6 s
Push in
The camera moves in until the biggest head fills one side, then a dark flash on the drop.
- 6–9 s
The row flips
Big to small now runs the other way, and the bopping carries straight on.
- 9–12 s
Close-up finish
Heads squeezed together, a last few bops and an open mouth on the final beat.
Where the head bop trend came from
Head bop animations have been on TikTok under #headbopanimation since 2022, usually made by hand: cut out a head, keyframe it to a phonk or Brazilian funk beat. The current wave began on September 28, 2026, when a clip of a "family" of fighter jets bopping in a row passed a million views.
Within days the four-cat version became the template everyone copied. CapCut's "Cat Headbop" template passed 290,000 uses by mid-October, and AI versions followed so people could drop in their own cat, dog or face without editing anything.
CapCut template, keyframes or AI?
A CapCut template pastes your photo onto the original motion, so it only works well when your photo is already cut out and lined up. Keyframing by hand in CapCut or Alight Motion gives full control, but takes time to get every bop on the beat.
The AI version generates the whole clip around your subject: the heads keep real fur or skin, blink and open their mouths, and the timing comes from the original. You upload one photo and download the finished MP4.
Make yours in three steps

Add one photo
One cat, dog or person facing the camera, face clear. A head-and-shoulders photo works best.

Face the camera
Front-on photos with both eyes visible bop best. Side profiles turn into odd shapes once the head starts moving.
Bright, even light
Good light keeps fur colour, markings and skin tone the same in every head of the row.
One subject per photo
Crop to the pet or person you want. Two animals in one photo can blend into one strange head.
Pets: catch them still
A sharp photo of a sitting cat or dog beats a blurry action shot. Whiskers, ears and markings carry over.
Head and shoulders
The row only shows heads and necks, so a close photo gives the model more detail to work with.
Use photos you're allowed to use
Your own pets, yourself, or friends who agreed to it. Photos of celebrities or other public figures won't pass review.

Most head bop edits use a slowed phonk or Brazilian funk beat. Our video comes with the sound from the cat clip it follows; you can swap it for another trending sound when you post.

The CapCut template moves your photo along the original motion, so it needs a clean cut-out and keeps the photo flat. This template generates the clip around your subject, so the heads blink, open their mouths and keep real fur or skin, from one ordinary photo.
Both spellings are used for the same trend. "Head bop" and "headbop" are the most common on TikTok and CapCut; "head bob" describes the same nodding motion.
